We respectfully acknowledge the sacred land upon which the events and activities of Bring on the Sunshine take place in Waterloo Region. This is the traditional homeland of the Haudonoshonee, Anishnabee and the Neutral peoples, who stewarded it for millennia.
We also want to acknowledge the importance of The Dish with One Spoon Covenant ‐ a peace agreement made between Indigenous nations before the Europeans arrived. It characterizes our collective responsibility to each other and Mother Earth ‐ we should take only what we need, leave enough for others and keep the dish clean. By acknowledging this covenant and the First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, we are reminded of our important connection to this land where we live, learn and work together as a community.
We invite you to learn more about the true history of this land, and to search out the wisdom and stories of the haudonoshonee, Anishnabee, Neutral peoples and other Native people still here. Bring on the Sunshine acknowledges that we are all treaty people and looks for opportunities to learn from the Indigenous peoples of this land, to ground ourselves in place and promote healing for us all.
